Vietnam has about 18 million workers in the agro-forestry and fishery sectors, including 4.3 million trained workers. 2.5 million rural workers were trained for agricultural jobs between 2010 and 2020 at 850 vocational training centers. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development says 32 universities and colleges offer high-tech agriculture courses.

Vietnam has 52,000 agro-forestry and fishery companies, of which 44 are high-tech companies.

Hoang Trong Vinh, Head of the Vocational Training Office of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, said: “We need to invest in high-tech agriculture training for rural workers. Farmers should study and practice on real machines to gain experience.”

At a recent vocational training conference to develop human resources for high-tech agriculture held in Buon Ma Thuot city, experts said human resource training for high-tech agriculture must reform.

Le Duc Thinh, Director General of the Department of Economic Co-operation and Rural Development, said: “Developing human resources for high-tech agriculture should be seen as a strategy for developing rural areas.”

Experts say training should connect trainees and businesses.
