Mai Danh Khue, a member of the Bus Association of District 12, turned off the ride-hailing service app earlier today to attend the annual “Tet reunion” event held by the Ho Chi Minh City’s Labor Federation. The “Tet reunion” program gave essential commodities and money to 420 disadvantaged workers in district 12.

“Tet gifts include confectionary and money. Attending the program, we enjoyed Tet meals together. This is a big encouragement for us,” Khue said.

Many localities have organized early Tet parties for people who will return home for Tet as well those who will stay in the city. Nguyen Thanh Tam, owner of a hostel in Thanh Loc ward and the Support Center for Young Workers in Ho Chi Minh City held 25 parties and presented gifts to workers living here.

Worker Le Thi Trien said: “We’re very happy today. We prepare the party together. I’ve been living here for 3 years but this is the first time I join the year-end party.”

The Support Center for Young Workers in Ho Chi Minh City organizes the “Happy Tet with young workers” at inns and hostels. It gives gifts to people staying in the city and bus tickets for those returning home for Tet. Nguyen Xuan Thu, a representative of the Center, said: “This is part of our efforts to care for the material and cultural life of young workers to help them stabilize their lives post-COVID. We hope they can keep on working and living in the city.”

Wards and districts in Ho Chi Minh City also give Tet gifts and hold community events for disadvantaged workers to bring them joy and happiness during the traditional lunar New Year.
