President Ho Chi Minh said that to build strong national unity, it’s necessary to have forces and core elements. He underlined that great unity means uniting a majority of the people, who are mostly farmers and working people of all strata. That idea was the foundation on which President Ho Chi Minh and the Communist Party of Vietnam established the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

To unite all people: the primary mission for all time

Great national unity is a strategic orientation, an internal strength, and the massive momentum to national construction and defense. On November 18, 1930, Nguyen Ai Quoc, who later became President Ho Chi Minh, and the Communist Party of Vietnam initiated the anti-imperialist alliance, the first organizational mode of the Vietnam National United Front, the cornerstone of a united, patriotic movement of Vietnamese people against the colonialists and their henchmen.

Embracing the revolutionary cause, the Front rallied people of all social strata, patriotic parties, and national salvation organizations and encouraged them to rise up during the August Revolution in 1945 and establish the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Great national unity was the foundation of the Dien Bien Phu victory in 1954, the liberation of the South and national reunification in 1975, and the development of socialism in Vietnam.

The VFF, a voluntary alliance of political and social organizations, pioneering individuals of all social strata, ethnic groups, and religions; and overseas Vietnamese, has promoted national unity, nurtured democracy, and built social consensus for national construction and development.

The Front’s campaigns and movements have inspired the creativity and constructive spirit of all people to engage in economic development, social affairs, and the building of new rural lifestyles and cultural urban areas. National campaigns have unlocked the potential and talent of individuals, organizations, and the community.

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Tran Thanh Man said: “The Front has always fulfilled its tasks as defined in the Party’s platform and the State’s Constitution. The Front has a profound role in mobilizing national strength to achieve socio-economic development, national defense, and political stability.”

Continued promotion of unity

Despite complicated developments globally and schemes by hostile forces to divide Vietnam, the Front has continued to expand and reinforce national unity and maintain consensus in implementing Party guidelines and State laws. The leaders of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have identified its permanent goals: maintaining peace, independence, national unity, territorial integrity, and a “prosperous people, a strong nation, democracy, equality, and a civilized society.”

“In the 2019-2024 tenure, the Front at all levels should reform its role and responsibility to the Party and people. It has mobilized people to pioneer socio-economic activities, national defense, and political strengthening. The Front must improve its movements and campaigns, particularly “building new rural lifestyles and cultural urban areas”, sustainable poverty reduction, and “Vietnamese prioritize using Vietnamese products”. Overseas Vietnamese affairs should encourage the 4.5 million Vietnamese abroad to contribute to Vietnam,” Man said.

Promoting great national unity is the primary mission of the Vietnam Fatherland Front for all time to empower Vietnam to develop sustainably.
