(VOVworld)- Beginning March 20, the Vietnam Fatherland Front will organize 3 inspection sessions for any problems or obstacles affecting elections at the grassroots level. The inspection is part of activities to prepare for the elections of the 14th National Assembly and People’s Council in the 2016-2021 term.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front will work with local Fatherland Fronts to ensure democracy, legality, and safety for the upcoming election, which will be held on May 22.
Ensuring election is in line with the law
Mr. Vo So, a voter in Dong Da district, Hanoi, says the 2015 Law on the Election of the National Assembly and People’s Councils stipulates that the Vietnam Fatherland Front is responsible for monitoring the election. So, the Vietnam Fatherland Front needs to closely monitor the preparation for and the organization of the election: “The Vietnam Fatherland Front needs to closely follow the organization, the allocation of deputies, the nomination of candidates and the campaigning of candidates. They are all very important steps in an election”.
In addition to organizing consultative meetings and nominating candidates, the supervision of the election is very important. Former Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Le Truyen said the supervision work needs to be carried out thoroughly and in accordance with the law: “Supervision needs to be carried out throughout the process of preparing and organizing the election. Through this work, the Fatherland Front shows its role to the public. The Fatherland Front needs to check, for example, whether the consultative process is improved and democratic. The election will contribute to reforming the state apparatus”.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front has adopted a plan on monitoring the election of the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils in the 2016-2021 term. Under the plan, the Vietnam Fatherland Front will focus on supervising the election campaigns and responsibilities of organizations, agencies, and media agencies in organizing election campaigns to ensure that they are in line with the 2015 Law on National Assembly and People’s Council Elections. Mr. Nguyen Van Pha is Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front: “The Vietnam Fatherland Front and social organizations will closely monitor the election campaigning. Candidates are not allowed to use gifts or abuse humanitarian activities to gain voters’ support. For example, you haven’t been to that village for a long time. Suddenly, you come back and present local people with gifts. It will be a problem. Or if a voter says that a candidate gave him money, the candidate needs to be removed from the list. The Fatherland Front needs to closely monitor those things”.
The election needs to be monitored in an efficient manner. Violations of the Election Law need to be reported to the Electoral Steering Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Central Committee and the National Electoral Council for prompt response to make the upcoming election a success.
