(VOVworld)- At the 60^th session of the UN Commission for the Status of Women in New York, Vietnam was applauded for its achievements in promoting gender equality. Vietnam will continue to promote the advancement of women through increasing cooperation with partners, especially the UN.

Vietnam’s achievements in promoting gender equality span many fields. Since 2010, gender equality has been integrated into 40 laws and other legal documents. Programs and policies promoting gender equality have helped to empower women. The 2016-2020 National Action Program on Gender Equality, aimed at narrowing the gender gap and improving women’s status in society, was launched in 2015. An Action Month for Gender Equality and Gender-Based Violence Prevention takes place from November 15 to December 15 every year. Over the past few years, Vietnam has put in place specific policies to support women and reduce domestic violence in rural and remote areas. Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan said: “Vietnam has obtained major achievements in promoting gender equality. Vietnam is one of the Asian countries with the highest percentage of female parliamentarians and female CEOs. Women account for 48% of the labor force. Vietnam is developing and implementing several laws and national strategic programs on gender equality, like the Law on Gender Equality, the Law on Anti-Domestic Violence, the 2011-2015 National Program for Gender Equality, and the 2011-2020 National Strategy on Gender Equality”.

Vietnam intends to enforce laws and policies on gender equality and include the empowerment of women in national programs. Vietnam plans to allocate sufficient resources to narrow gender gaps by 2030, improve women’s access to health services, education and jobs and eliminate all forms of violence against women.  Vietnam will continue to be a UN member committed to ensuring gender equality rights in politics, economics, and society.
