Vietnamese field hospital ready for mission in South Sudan

(VOVWORLD) - Health workers of the Vietnam Field Hospital – Military Hospital 175 have practiced hardly over the past few months despite severe weather to prepare for a peacekeeping mission in South Sudan assigned by the UN. They are now ready for UN assessment.

Though stationed in Vietnam, Field Hospital Level 2 of the Military Hospital 175 operates as a professional field hospital. All 70 staff and soldiers have gathered over the past week to carry out field activities. Doctors and nurses carried out simulation exercises of receiving and treating injured people in a quick and safe manner and communicating in English.
Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Van Xung, an anesthetist with Field Hospital Level 2, said: “Our field hospital has practiced and carried out simulation exercises over the past 2 weeks. The exercises in the field are much different from operating rooms in the hospital. In the field, we managed to overcome difficulties and conditions to fulfill our tasks.”
The hospital ensures logistics, offices, accommodations, camps, and facilities for field activities. Doctors and nurses practiced treating bomb and mine injuries and tropical diseases and evacuating the injured.
Major Colonel Doctor Bui Duc Thanh is Director of Field Hospital Level 2 of Military Hospital 175: “We have followed all UN standard procedures in patient treatment and care. We have preliminarily evaluated capacity and language skills of the hospital staff. We are confident that we will fulfill our tasks.”
The Ministry of Defense assigned experienced doctors to carry out the mission. All activities at the field hospital are monitored by distinguished doctors who have experience on Vietnam’s southwestern battlefield.
