Upon hearing about the armed conflict in Ukraine, Vice President of the Association of Overseas Vietnamese in Romania Pham Duy Hung immediately joined a team from the Vietnamese Embassy that traveled a long distance in a snowstorm to meet Vietnamese people fleeing the combat zone. Leaving behind their jobs and families, the team has worked around the clock for days receiving Vietnamese refugees from Ukraine and taking them to safe accommodations.

“We arrange accommodations and food for the refugees. We have 30 people working at full capacity around the clock,” said Hung.

Nguyen Manh Duc, another member of the team, said there is a spirit of support for their Vietnamese compatriots coming from Ukraine.

“I’ve met many children and old people. We help them and comfort them through their difficulties,” said Duc.

The Association of Overseas Vietnamese and other groups of Vietnamese in Romania have lent a helping hand.

A volunteer named Nguyen Hong Ha said: “We wait around the clock at train and bus stations to receive Vietnamese coming from Ukraine. What motivated me to volunteer was national pride and compassion. We want everyone to be able to reunite with their family.”
