(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will lead a Vietnamese delegation to the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia, from Tuesday to Thursday. Themed “ASEAN matters: Epicentrum of Growth," the summit presents ASEAN countries’ wish and effort to turn the bloc into a growth engine with a leading role in regional cooperation and connectivity, contributing to the shared goal of peace, stability, and prosperity. As ASEAN is an organization of strategic importance to Vietnam's security interests, position, status, and development, Vietnam participates in the 42nd ASEAN Summit with a positive, responsible, and innovative mind to contribute to the overall success of the event.

In the face of global complications, the 42nd ASEAN Summit conveys the message of member countries joining hands to boost economic recovery in a sustainable and inclusive way.
ASEAN’s future orientation
The summit will consist of new dialogues between the leaders and groups on issues related to building an ASEAN Community. A dialogue between ASEAN leaders and the High-Level Task Force on the ASEAN Community Post-2025 Vision will be held for the first time.
A leader of Timor Leste will attend the summit for the first time as an observer. The summit is expected to adopt a number of important documents on politics-security, economics, and culture-society. The documents closely follow the priorities set by the ASEAN Chair in 2023 on financial stability and energy security.
These are practical contents to support regional recovery and growth and make ASEAN a central force in regional development. The conference will set orientations for ASEAN’s future relations with partners, in which ASEAN will ensure its unity, solidarity, and centrality.
“ASEAN remains a very important player in the region and globally. That’s why we continue to attract a lot of interests from external partners. With global uncertainties, it’s important for ASEAN to work together to ensure that it remains attractive to investors from our partner countries,” said ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn.
Vietnam works for a united, strong, and developed ASEAN
ASEAN is an inseparable part of Vietnam’s external policy. Since it joined ASEAN in 1995, Vietnam has always been an active member, making many important contributions to the organization. Vietnam always raises high the spirit of solidarity and consensus in all ASEAN activities.
As the ASEAN Chair in 2020, with unprecedented difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam upheld ASEAN's principles and spirit of "cohesion and adaptation" to steer ASEAN through turbulence, maintain momentum for cooperation and connectivity, and set out development orientations for ASEAN’s future.
"Since Vietnam became ASEAN's full member in 1995, Vietnam has played a very important role, being a major contributor to ASEAN. As we take turn to play the role of ASEAN Chair and regional cooperator for partner countries, Vietnam has been very active on ASEAN front. Vietnam has been a proactive contributor to ASEAN," ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn said.
Vietnam attends the 42nd ASEAN Summit with a message of strengthening unity and self-reliance, improving ASEAN's ability to respond and adapt to changes, and further promoting its role, voice, and responsibility in global issues.
