World Peace Council Assembly connects peace-loving countries

(VOVWORLD) -  91 representatives from 45 countries are in Vietnam for the 22nd Congress of the World Peace Council. Hosting the event for the first time since the establishment of the World Peace Council in 1950, Vietnam has proved to be an active and responsible member, connecting peace-loving countries.

At the meetings and discussions, Vietnamese leaders stressed that peace, independence, and freedom are always the aspiration of the Vietnamese people and the goal of the Vietnamese revolution. Peace-loving people around the world, including the World Peace Council, have created an unprecedented international front to unite and help Vietnam achieve peace and prosperity.

Currently, world peace is facing enormous challenges. Preventing wars and conflicts, protecting peace, and building a world of fair and sustainable development are becoming urgent tasks. In this effort, the World Peace Council plays a very important role. As a member of the Council, Vietnam upholds the spirit of international solidarity and actively contributes to the Council’s work and the world peace movement.

Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man said: "We need to step up the struggle for peace, disarmament, and demilitarization, and completely abolish nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen cooperation to effectively deal with transnational threats and traditional and non-traditional security challenges, and promote sustainable and equitable development for all countries."

As the host of the 22nd Assembly of the World Peace Council, Vietnam proposed strategic orientations, an effective action plan, and practical solutions to improve the Council’s performance and contribute to world peacekeeping efforts.

Chairman of the Vietnam Peace Committee Uong Chu Luu said: "Upholding international solidarity, democracy, wisdom, and responsibility, the Assembly focused on strategic orientations and practical action programs to unite organizations, individuals, and peace movements in the struggle for a peaceful world and fair and sustainable development for all of us."
