Young people play a pioneering role in production and national digital transformation as well as in developing the digital economy on the basis of science, technology, and innovation.

Young people master digital transformation

Young people account for about one-fifth of Vietnam's population or approximately 20.7 million people. With the rapid development of science and technology, young people, with their integration capacity and youthfulness, play an important role in mastering high technology and developing digital economy and digital society.

The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union identifies one of its three breakthrough tasks of the 2022-2027 term as improving young people’s digital capacity and awareness of digital transformation and equipping them with knowledge and skills for social communication, study, research, entertainment, work, and startups in the context of strong digital transformation. This effort is aimed at improving the quality of young human resources in the future, labor productivity, and national competitiveness.

Since last year, pioneering in digital transformation has been a new mandatory task for the Youth Union organizations at all levels.

Le Thanh Hang, Secretary of the Youth Union of the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group – Hanoi (VNPT), said: “VNPT’s Youth Union members are vanguards in digital transformation, providing technology solutions to the government and 63 provinces and cities.”

Pham Quang Phong, Deputy Secretary of Gia Lam district’s Youth Union, said: “Our Youth Union members have participated in communication activities and helped people install electronic identification applications and Party member handbook software.”

Nguyen Tuong Lam, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union’s Central Committee, said: “Youth Union members are very quick in learning and using digital technology. Pioneering is a characteristic of young people. It’s important to raise young people’s awareness of digital transformation so they will actively acquire digital technology to become digital citizens. Youth Union organizations should use digital applications to raise the efficiency of their performance.”

Key tasks in youth's vanguard role

The government launched the National Digital Transformation Program until 2025, with a vision to 2030, setting the target that the digital economy will account for 30% of GDP by 2030.

At a meeting with young people on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said there are 5 requirements for economic digitalization: building a methodical and comprehensive strategy with an appropriate roadmap, implementing with targets and focus, innovating management, operation, and social governance methods towards modernity and digitalization, promoting the initiative, creative, and breakthrough ability of all people, especially young people, and mobilizing and effectively using all resources and the participation of the political system, people, and businesses.

Prime Minister Chinh urged all young Vietnamese people to uphold the spirit of “5 vanguards” in national digital transformation. “First is to pioneer in improving awareness of the role and position of digital transformation in national development. Second is to pioneer in fine-tuning laws for digital transformation. Third is being an impulse in upgrading digital infrastructure. Fourth is taking the lead in human resource training. And the last is to be the vanguard in innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship, and digital culture.”

Digital transformation has become an important focus of Vietnam as well as the whole world. The National Digital Transformation Program until 2025, with a vision to 2030, has set the goal of building a digital government, digital economy, digital society, and Vietnamese digital technology enterprises capable of working globally.

Young people are the future masters of the country. With the support of the Party, State, and sectors at all levels, together with the youth’s pioneering spirit, Vietnam will soon become a digital country.
