Digitalization of Hue’s heritages for better preservation

(VOVWORLD) - The Hue Monuments Conservation Center has just won two awards: “Top Science, Technology and Innovation Organizations/Enterprises” and “Vietnam Digital Award 2024”. Using smart phones to access the center’s applications, tourists can easily see images and read information, documents, and schedules to visit Hue Monuments Complex.

The Hue Monuments Conservation Center was honored at the Vietnam Digital Award 2024, co-organized by the Vietnam Digital Communications Association and Viet Times e-magazine early this month. The annual award, sponsored by the Ministry of Information and Communications, acknowledges groups and individuals for their contributions to national digital transformation.

The Center has implemented a number of technological solutions to preserve and promote heritage values and gradually change the way people and tourists approach heritage.

Vo Quang Huy, Deputy Chief of Office of Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said a digital database has been built, while an e-ticket system and a mobile app is applied for visitors inside the Hue Imperial Citadel. 360 virtual reality technology has been available at some relic sites and QR code scanning is useful for studying some antiquities. Digital technology has contributed significantly to the preservation and promotion of heritage values, changed the way people can discover heritage, and has brought Hue heritages closer to domestic and international visitors in a professional and modern direction.

Le Thi Hoa An, Head of the Science Office of the Center, said: “We have digitally documented all architectural works and data and used technology to design 3D scenery. Tourists can explore relics using interactive 3D technology.”

In September, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations honored the Hue Monuments Conservation Center in the category of "Top Science, Technology and Innovation Organizations/Enterprises".

Hoang Viet Trung, Director of the Center said: “We introduce new content and new technologies to further promote heritage values and transform them into economic values. All our activities serve social development and preservation and promotion of heritage values.”

Nguyen Long, Vice President and Secretary General of the Vietnam Association of Information Technology said that the Hue Monuments Conservation Center has succeeded in accelerating digital transformation and applying real-digital technology platforms.

“We plan to digitize archives of Hue Royal Palaces and combine everything into a real-virtual environment. Then we bring everything to an open cyberspace for everyone to access a digital museum. The heritages and relics of the Hue ancient capital can be accessed anywhere and anytime.”

Thua Thien Hue province has eight world heritages and about 1,000 historical and cultural relics. Recently the Hue Monuments Conservation Center invited experts from Google to introduce their new technologies such as NFT, Blockchain, Web 3, and real-digital connection and survey the digitalization work of the Hue Royal Museum. They have tested the real-digital connection space of some precious artifacts of the Hue Royal Palace.
