In recent years, visitors to Nha Trang City have been surprised by the rapid development of infrastructure, especially the transportation system and the mushrooming of tourist services, hotels and restaurants, which has changed the face of the city.
Pressured by the pace of infrastructure development, Khanh Hoa’s provincial authorities have proposed a master plan on for Nha Trang’s development that will increase the city’s attractiveness as a tourist destination. Under the plan, a long green park, a public square and sunbathing areas will be built along the ocean side of Tran Phu road, which runs along the Nha Trang beach, the main landscape axis of Nha Trang. The province is calling for investment to build a new administrative center using the Build and Transfer model. In return, investors will be allowed to use part of the former administrative center to develop tourist services. Investors are also being encouraged to transform current infrastructure into parks in connection with public services for tourists and the community. "It would be good if we rezoned some current tourist construction projects and replaced them with green space. By ending the unplanned construction, we can ensure public access to the beauty of Nha Trang Bay", said Bui Dung Hoi, a local architect.
Former Chairman of the Khanh Hoa provincial People’s Committee Giang Nam says restoration of the natural beauty of Nha Trang Bay will contribute to sustainable local tourism development. "In Nha Trang, it’s important to create an open space to restore the ecology of the city. Otherwise, the city will lose the advantage of having beautiful beaches, where local people have the right to relax", said Mr. Nam.
This master development plan is expected to make Nha Trang city cleaner, greener and more beautiful thus attracting more domestic and foreign tourists to one of the world’s 29 most beautiful bays.
