Discovered by a French doctor in 1927, the spring has a temperature of 680C and contains calcium sulphate and silicium. It’s named after the local village. Thanh Tan’s mineral water is similar to the 20 leading mineral hot springs in Germany, Spain, China, and Canada. Le Van Hoa is Deputy Director General of Thanh Tan Joint Stock Company: ‘Bathing here is very good for health as the water is rich in minerals and the high temperature can quickly relieve tiredness. The spring discharges 700 cubic meters of water every day. The mineral water here contains 160 mg of calcium, and 24 mg of magnesium per liter, two elements which are extremely good for cardiovascular health’.
The hot mineral water can be drunk from the spring, bottled, or used for bathing as a medical treatment. The resort is now receiving about 120,000 people each year. Hoa says ‘You can soak in the hot mineral water all year round. As the water flows further from the source, the heat gradually decreases. Bathers usually start at the cool end and move upward until they reach a comfortable temperature’.
In addition to the natural hot spring, there is a manmade pool, nestled among the very romantic orchids. Besides the pool are thatch houses for the convenience of the guests.
