Two-tonne blue whale spotted off Mui Ganh-Hoai Hai beach

(VOVWORLD) - A two-tonne blue whale has been spotted off the coast of Mui Ganh-Hoai Hai beach, Binh Dinh province. The sight fascinated locals as they believed the whale would bring good fortune to fishermen.

 The Bryde's whale is considered to be one of the "great whales" and is among a group that includes blue whales and humpback whales named after Johan Bryde, a South African shipping company owner and whaler of Norwegian ancestry who built the first whaling stations in South Africa in the early 20th century. |
 The sight of the blue whale is a rare phenomenon in recent years, with local fishermen believing that the whale will bring good luck. |
 The Bryde's whale is included in the list of protected endangered marine species, meaning that it is forbidden to fish or harm them in Vietnam. |
 Mui Ganh-Hoai Hai beach is situated about 100 kilometres from the coastal city of Quy Nhon. |
 This is the first time that local people have got the chance to see whales swimming in the blue waters off the coast of Mui Ganh-Hoai Hai beach in Binh Dinh province. |
