In a congratulatory letter, Communist Party of the Russian Federation chief Gennady Andreyevich Zyuganov described the Congress as a landmark event, which will review what the Party has done in the last tenure and define what it will do in the future.

The Congress will set out strategic targets until 2030, when the Communist Party of Vietnam celebrates its 100th anniversary, as well as Vietnam’s socio-economic development orientation until 2045, he said.

President of the Russian-Vietnam Friendship Association Vladimir Buyanov said drafts documents of the Congress highlight Vietnam’s determination to pursue its reforms towards prosperity and happiness.

Former Russian military experts who worked in Vietnam during the war sent their congratulations to the Party Congress and all Vietnamese communists. Chairman of their association Nikolai Kolesnik said he is thankful for the Vietnamese leaders’ and war veterans’ acknowledgement of the contributions made by former Russian military experts during the anti-US war.

Edward Teather, an ASEAN economist at UBS Research, told CNBC that though suffering from COVID-19 devastation, Vietnam is still a beacon of light in the region. Vietnam has maintained its development momentum and has won advantage to expand its exports in the future. Vietnam sees an economic prospect brighter than that of the whole region, Teather said.

Singapore’s Sunday Times said Vietnam is preparing to convene its 13th National Party Congress, a major political event, under favorable conditions seen no where else. According to the newspaper, the COVID-19 pandemic is under control in Vietnam, whose economic growth is forecast to advance much faster than that of its neighbors. Vietnam is emerging as an attractive investment destination, partly thanks to the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, the Sunday Times said, stressing that the Party has won public acclaim for its anti-corruption efforts.
