(VOVworld) - The 19th Vietnam Film Festival opened at Hoa Binh Theatre in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday under the theme “Vietnam’s Cinema – Ethnicity, Humanity, Innovation and Integration”.

The festival promotes Vietnam’s innovative film industry, and honors outstanding individuals who have aided the industry’s development. A highlight of this year’s event was free pre-screenings of 33 films in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Da Nang between November 18 and 24. Director Vu Xuan Hung, a member of the jury said: “This year’s films are excellent in content and style. The films have diverse themes and characters. The film crew have much improved their logic and expressiveness of the films’ contents”.

Works competing at the festival are divided into categories – feature films, videos, documentaries, scientific films, and animation.  Awards will be presented for the best director, best screenwriter, best cinematographer, best actor and actress in supporting roles, best actor and actress in leading roles, best production design, and best soundtrack.
