The closing meeting of the first session of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC) was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China on Sunday.

Many important agendas related to China’s economics, politics, security, national defence and diplomacy were approved at the session. Most notably, the session adopted a plan to restructure the cabinet and transform government functions and elect major leaders in the country’s NPC and State. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Chinese President, Xi Jinping, stressed that China will continue to promote peace, development, cooperation and pursue open strategy of mutual benefit, befriend with other countries, fulfill international tasks and responsibility and join the world to boost the noble cause of developing peace for humankind.

Newly elected chairman of China’s NPC, Zhang Dejiang, said China’s National People’s Congress and its Standing Committee will exert continuous effort to promote socialist democracy and the rule of law, reform and adopt open policy. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said at the closing ceremony that the Chinese government will abide by the law, respect the people and fulfill national tasks. The government set priority to 3 major tasks including maintaining economic growth, improving the people’s living standard and protecting social equality.
