2017 Nobel Peace Prize to be awarded to ICAN
(VOVWORLD) -The Norwegian Nobel Committee has announced that the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2017 is the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN).
The committee honored the organization for its work to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons and for its ground-breaking efforts to achieve a treaty-based prohibition of such weapons. The 1.1 million USD Prize will be awarded in Oslo on December 10. Since 1901, a total of 97 Nobel Peace Prizes have been awarded, 16 of them given to women.
