2022 records no rhino poaching in Assam, India

(VOVWORLD) -2022 is the first in 45 years without any poached rhinos in Assam of the North East of India, said the country’s authority.

“This huge animal is now safer in Assam”, said Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma. 191 rhinos were poached in Assam from 2000 to 2021. 2013 and 2014 recorded the highest number of poached rhinos at 27.

71% of the endangered one-horned rhinos live in Assam. India encouraged its people not to trust rhino horns’ medical properties, which have not been scientifically proven.
