(VOVworld) - More than 500 delegates attended the 2nd global conference on agriculture, food security and climate change in Hanoi on Monday. The event was organized by Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Dutch Government, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Bank. Addressing the opening ceremony, Minister Cao Duc Phat stressed the increasingly important role of agriculture in each country, saying sustainable agricultural growth not only ensures sufficient food for the population but also helps improve people’s living standards: “Countries need to strengthen cooperation to settle global challenges and encourage the private sector to invest in agriculture. Resources need to be mobilized for research and development, the application of technology and information dissemination to develop an environmentally friendly agriculture. I believe that with the close global cooperation and assistance from international organizations, each country’s efforts will bring about success and that we overcome the global challenges related to food security.

During the 3 day conference, delegates will focus their discussions on defining new financial sources, expand research and technological transfer, and increase the private sector’s investment through the public-private partnership, and increase risks management.
