(VOVworld) - The 32^nd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and its associated meetings opened in Vientiane on Tuesday.

Laos will make effective use of the river system in hydropower development without harming the environment

Addressing the event, Lao Prime Minister Thongsinh Thammavong stressed the increasing energy demand amid the non-stop development of ASEAN socio-economics, adding that the energy industry plays an important role in tackling climate change and ensuring regional sustainable socio-economic development. ASEAN members have exchanged experience in energy saving and developing renewable energy sources effectively. Thammavong said his country pays great attention to preserving the biodiversity of flora and fauna and is committed to using natural resources effectively.   Specifically, Laos will make effective use of the river system in hydropower development without harming the environment.
