50th anniversary of Paris Peace Accords commemorated in France

(VOVWORLD) - The Mayor of Verrières-le-Buisson city in France said the signing of the 1973 Paris Peace Accords was a milestone in Vietnam’s history, and an important event for the city.

Mayor François Guy Trébulle made the statement at a ceremony jointly organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in France and Verrières-le-Buisson city on Saturday to commemorate 50 years of the signing of the Paris Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam (Paris Peace Accords).

The delegation of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam stayed in Verrières-le-Buisson on the outskirts of Paris for the negotiations and the signing of the Paris Peace Accords.

Vietnamese Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang spoke highly of the role of the French city, which, he said, always shares values of peace and solidarity with Vietnam. 

Michel Strachinescu, who served as a driver for then Foreign Minister Nguyen Thi Binh during the negotiations, said Vietnam is a great nation which shined in the international arena with its victory during the past struggle for peace.
