A health ministry official said Thursday that some 3,570 others were wounded in the crackdown and ensuing clashes across Egypt. In Rabaa Al-Adwiya square, where the protestors have camped for several weeks, 137 people reported death. The Muslim Brotherhood said nearly 2,000 people were killed as the police forcibly cleared protest camps, but the figure has not been confirmed.

Violent unrest convulsing the country has led the interim government to declare a month-long state of emergency, with a daily curfew between 7:00pm and 6:00am in Cairo and 13 other governorates.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday called for an urgent UN Security Council meeting over Egypt’s situation. French President Francois Hollande summoned Egypt’s Ambassador to discuss the situation.
