(VOVworld) – 63 women and girls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents in northeast Nigeria have escaped captivity and returned to their homes, security sources disclosed Sunday. The hostages managed to escape when their captors left to conduct an attack.

In another development, more than 50 Boko Haram insurgents were killed Saturday in a clash with security forces in Borno state in northern Nigeria. At least 6 soldiers were killed when the army repelled attacks by a Boko Haram group against some barracks and a police station in Damboa town. At least 1,500 people have been killed in Boko Haram attacks since the beginning of this year.
