(VOVworld) – Various activities are taking place nationwide to mark the 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory. Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam on Monday attended an inaugural ceremony of the first phase of Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum in Dien Bien province. Beginning in 2012 with a total investment of more than 10 million USD, the museum covers an area of 22,000 square metres, displaying 1,000 objects and photos about Dien Bien Phu campaign and featuring contributions of the international community to the campaign and its global impact. At the event, a representative of the family of the late General Vo Nguyen Giap, the campaign’s Commander-in-chief, presented the museum a map recording the developments of the campaign with the General’s signature.

The same day, 120 black-and-white photos about Dien Bien Phu campaign were introduced by the Vietnam News Agency in an exhibition in Hanoi. The photos highlighted the most outstanding moments of the fiercest battles of the operation and changes of the region over the past 60 years. President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan attended the event: “I’m moved to see the photos, many of which I could have never seen before or seen them more clearly with the name of the photographers. I think the photos are alive witnesses. The exhibition is a great idea to recall the national history.”

The same day, Hanoi’s Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism reproduced Dien Bien Phu victory in a photo exhibit entitled “Dien Bien Phu – an everlasting epic”. Various activities have been held by Vietnamese embassies abroad. A film week was held in Laos featuring 5 films and 3 documentaries. The Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria held a meeting to promote Dien Bien Phu victory and introduce Vietnam’s economic potentials.
