Activities to mark 40th anniversary of national reunification

(VOVworld) – The Ministry of Defense on Friday held a workshop on Major General Hoang Van Thai, a talented Vietnamese military leader, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of national reunification, April 30.

During 50 years of taking part in the revolution, Major General Hoang Van Thai successfully fulfilled many important tasks assigned by the Party and State and shown his outstanding leadership capacity. Do Ba Ty, Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defense Minister, said that as the first Chief of the General Staff, Major General Hoang Van Thai played an important role in laying a firm foundation for the establishment and development of the General Staff and staff agencies at all levels.
Cao Thi Hai, Vice Chairwoman of Thai Binh Province’s People’s Committee, said at the workshop “Major General Hoang Van Thai had always paid attention to the relations between ministries, sectors and local authorities. He also made many strategic and significant initiatives for national construction and defence, focusing on the political spirit, people’s national defense, and the relations between people and soldiers."

On the same day, the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army held an award ceremony for a writing contest about Uncle Ho’s soldiers. There was no first prize. Two articles won second prizes. A radio report called “Affectionate class on Hon Chuoi island” of the Military TV and Radio station won the first prize in radio category.
