Algeria said it is confident that the rift is temporary, despite "real challenges" to Arab unity and solidarity, "not least terrorism".

Meanwhile, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drain met with his Saudi and Qatari counterparts on Tuesday and with a representative of UAE’s Crown Prince on Wednesday to discuss the issue, before heading to Egypt for a scheduled visit on Thursday.

In another development, Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber al-Sabah will arrive in Saudi Arabia as a mediator.
