A poll carried out between March 5 and 8 showed that 51 per cent of Americans worry “a great deal” about the possibility of a terrorist attack, up by 12 per cent following the last survey in 2014.
About 28 per cent of Americans worry about race relations, up 11 per cent from lat year. Americans’ worries about illegal immigration also rose from 6 to 39 per cent.
A number of events which occurred last year have made Americans worry more about the major issues which the US is facing. Terror attacks on a newspaper office in Paris, France, and the rise of IS in Syria and Iraq have led to a significant increase in Americans’ concerns about their homeland security. Ongoing protests over the shooting dead of a black man by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, and other racially charged incidents have also increased Americans’ worries over increasingly tense race relations.
