(VOVworld) - Former US senator and Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee will seek the nomination of the Democratic Party to run for US president in 2016.

 He announced to challenge former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the most potential for the party's presidential nod. Speaking at George Mason University in Virginia on Wednesday, Chafee said he is formally entering the race for the Democratic nomination for president, adding he enjoys dealing with challenges facing America.

62-year-old Lincoln Chafee served from 1999 to 2007 in the US Senate as a Republican then switched his affiliation to independent when he ran for governor of Rhode Island in 2010. In his last year as governor in 2013, he became a Democrat.
