ASEAN+3 FMM and EAS to promote regional cooperation and connectivity

(VOVworld) - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh has participated in the meetings between ASEAN Foreign Ministers and their counterparts from China, Japan and South Korea in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. During the ASEAN plus 3 meeting, Ministers called for implementation of their action plan until 2017 towards a long term objective of East Asian Community and cooperation in many areas, including trade, investment, tourism, climate change response and energy.

During the East Asia Summit’s Foreign Ministers Meeting, delegates from ASEAN and 8 partner countries from Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Russia and the US agreed on the necessity to foster regional connectivity and an early finalization of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement while focusing on 6 priorities, including energy, education, finance, healthcare, environment and ASEAN connectivity. They pledged to promote maritime cooperation, disaster control and combating terrorism and Islamic extremism. They agreed to hold the 10th anniversary of the East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur this November before closing the conference.
