Australia urges China to increase dialogue on East Sea

(VOVworld) – On Monday, during a visit to the US Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull urged China to take steps to avoid military conflicts over to territorial disputes in the East Sea and increase dialogue with the parties concerned.

Addressing the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington DC, he said that China should avoid falling into the trap of potential conflict between nations. He said he hopes that China’s actions will be considered carefully to minimize conflicts and calm neighboring countries.

Earlier, he met with US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter and Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford at the Pentagon to discuss the situations in Iraq and Syria as well as security cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. He will also hold talks with President Obama on Tuesday to discuss global security, the military campaign against IS in Iraq and Syria, and the ratification of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement.
