Bo Y border gate economic zone to become regional processor

(VOVworld) – The Bo Y border gate economic zone in the central highlands province of Kon Tum plans to become a large processing center in the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia development triangle. To achieve this, Kon Tum provincial People’s Committee on Thursday proposed greater investment in infrastructure, particularly side gates and roads, to Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh and Country Director of the Asia Development Bank in Vietnam Tomoyuki Kimura. They met during an inspection trip by Vinh and Kimura to the central highlands to discuss the operation of the Bo Y border gate economic zone.

Vinh asked that the province to make full use of its advantages to develop in accordance with the general development of the central highlands region and Indochina. He said: "We should first upgrade transportation infrastructure, then boost production to bring higher income to locals. The region with its fertile soil is a major Vietnamese production center, but produces mainly raw and unrefined goods. This economic zone could become the biggest rubber and coffee producer in Indochina".

The Bo Y border gate economic zone spreads across 70,000 hectares. It lies at the heart of the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia development triangle and links to the East-West economic corridor.
