During a press conference in Brasília, officials from the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aviation Accidents (Cenipa) and the Brazilian National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) stated that there had been no emergency alert from the pilots before the crash, which claimed the lives of 61 people, including 57 passengers and 4 crew members. Marcelo Moreno, the Director of Cenipa, confirmed that the black box was intact but noted that it was too early to determine the cause of the accident.

The aircraft involved was an ATR-72 operated by the Brazilian airline Voepass Linhas Aéreas. It crashed in Vinhedo at 1:30 p.m. on August 8 (local time) while en route from Cascavel in Paraná state to Guarulhos in São Paulo state. The crash site is located 80 km northwest of São Paulo city. Videos shared on social media showed the plane losing stability, crashing into a residential area, and catching fire. Authorities reported that no one on the ground was injured.
