The announcement to dismiss the 27-minister cabinet was published on Thursday's edition of the government gazette, the Brazilian Globo television network reported. Those who were sacked include the former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Rousseff's predecessor and mentor, whom she named as her Chief of staff in March.

The same day Vice President Michel Temer was named Brazil’s interim President following a statement by the Senate. Temer then appointed Henrique Meirelles, the former Central bank Head during 2003-2010, as finance minister. Analysts said Meirelles will face a difficult term to revive the biggest economy in Latin America out of its worst recession since 1930.
