Building Vietnam’s modern, competitive agriculture

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has shared his desire to build Vietnam’s agriculture to be modern and competitive in the world market.

He told business representatives at a conference organized by the Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs’ Association in Ho Chi Minh City that agriculture is an advantage of Vietnam’s economy. He pointed out major policies of the Party and State to boost the application of technologies in agriculture, including a 50 trillion VND preferential loan for investing in clean vegetable production. Prime Minister Phuc said: “The State Bank should provide a credit package worth from 50 trillion to 60 trillion VND with the most favorable lending procedures. Several commercial banks should take part in this initiative to improve credit quality and prevent wrong doings.”

Prime Minister Phuc suggested Vietnam establish technical barrier in accordance with the World Trade Organization’s regulations to protect domestic goods. He called for more support for producers of materials serving agriculture, improve the operation of cooperatives, and encourage self-employed individuals in rural areas to shift to business model.
