The call was a response to Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Kheng’s statement last week that the CPP is holding open the door for talks with the CNRP. Rainsy told a press conference in Phnom Penh that only talks between the two parties can end the current political deadlock. He said the CNRP wants to find a peaceful solution to the dispute and ensure that the upcoming elections will be free and fair.

The CNRP boycotted the parliament after last July’s election claiming it was rigged, and staged numerous protests demanding election reform and a new election. But the CPP denied the accusation and continues to control Cambodia’s legislature and law enforcement agencies.
