Canada’s film “Remember” wins big at HANIFF 2016

(VOVworld) - “Remember”, a Canadian-German film won the “Best Feature Length Film” title and the “Best Actor” award for Christopher Plumme in the lead role at the 4th Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIF) which ended on Saturday.

“Remember” is the contemporary story of Zev, who discovers that the Nazi guard who murdered his family some 70 years ago is living in America under an assumed identity. Despite the obvious challenges, Zev sets out on a mission to deliver long-delayed justice with his own trembling hand. What follows is a remarkable cross-continent road-trip with surprising consequences.

The “Best Short Film” prize went to the Mexican film “Three variations of Ofelia”. The “Best leading actress” award honored Hasmine Killip for her lead role in the film “Ordinary people” of the Philippines, of which director Eduardo Roy Jr was awarded with the “Best Director of Feature-length film” prize. Director Pham Ngoc Lan of the film “Another city” bagged home the title of “Best young director (under 30 years of age) of short film”. The comedy movie Jackpot directed by Vietnamese-American Dustin Nguyen won the “People’s Choice Award for Feature Length Film”. The “ People’s Choice Award for contemporary Vietnamese films.” belonged to the film “Taxi, what’s your name” by director Do Duc Thinh and Dinh Tuan Vu.

Director of the Cinematography Department Ngo Phuong Lan spoke at the closing ceremony: “This year’s event, themed “Cinema – Integration and Sustainable Development,” gave a chance for local and foreign film makers to meet and exchange their experiences. The Hanoi International Film Festival has been scaled up to become a prestigious world event. The organizers have developed the film festival to meet international benchmarks but retained its Vietnamese imprints”.

HANIFF 2016 occurred from November 01 to November 05, introducing 146 films from 43 countries and territories. The event honored new talents and cinematographic works of high artistic and humane values.
