Central Vietnam battens down the hatches against storm Noul

(VOVWORLD) -Tropical Storm Noul is forecast to approach the coasts of Quang Tri to Quang Nam provinces in central Vietnam on Thursday morning.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung on Wednesday chaired a meeting  on countermeasures against the storm. He ordered the provincial and municipal authorities to keep a close watch on the developments of the storm and proactively take measures to ensure safety for residents.

Nguyen Thanh Nam, the Vice Chairman of Da Nang City’s Son Tra District People’s Committee, said, “We have instructed local fishermen to find shelter with timely communications to minimize losses when the storm hits central region.”

Localities said they have plans in place to evacuate residents in high-risk areas and cooperate with coast guards and other relevant forces to advise ships and tourist boats to take shelter or sail out of high-risk areas.

Colonel Trinh Thanh Binh, commander of border guards of Quang Binh provincce where more than 7,000 vessels with 22,3000 fishermen are operating at sea, said, “We have guided vessels and boats to dock onshore and get connected with those at sea to help them with navigation to safe zones. Necessary means of rescue are ready to be mobilized.”
