Seven decades ago, immediately after the signing of the Geneva Accords, President Ho Chi Minh and the Party Central Committee decided to establish a system of schools in the north for students from the south from 1954 to 1975.

More than 30,000 students from the south were sent to the north for education in the largest movement of children and students in history, which was considered a strategic success in three aspects - human training, educational model and long-term training strategy.

Addressing the event, Mai Liem Truc, former Deputy Minister of Post and Telecommunications, said the decision not only reflected a strategic vision, but also demonstrated the great sentiments of President Ho Chi Minh, the Party and the State for southern children.

Truc recalled that right from the first days when the southern Vietnam was liberated, the majority of the students returned to the south, taking over, building, and consolidating the revolutionary government, and becoming a team of key cadres in all fields of economics, politics, culture, society, science and technology, and education and training.

“When the nation began the renewal process in 1986, they creatively contributed to this process. Many have become famous scientists, teachers, artists, and successful businessmen. Many are senior leaders of the Party, the State, ministries, and centrally-run provinces and cities,” Truc added.
