During talks with his Japanese counterpart Yoshimasa Hayashi in Beijing, Mr. Qin said China-Japan relations are facing both opportunities and challenges amid global instability.

According to the Chinese foreign minister, peaceful coexistence and friendly cooperation are "the only right choice for China-Japan relations".

He also asked Japan to "responsibly handle" the dumping of nuclear-contaminated water from Fukushima into the sea.

Japan should not use "bullying tactics" to suppress China's semiconductor industry as the US did with Japan in the past, he said.

The two men also exchanged views on cooperation between China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, developments on the Korean Peninsula, and reform of the United Nations Security Council.
