The Ministry said in a statement that Australia's ban on TikTok from all federal government-owned devices harms the interests of Australian businesses and the public.

Australia treats TikTok differently from other social media platforms and adopted discriminatory restrictive measures, which are not conducive to maintaining Australia's national security, the statement said.

China also urged Australia to create a favorable environment for bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

On Tuesday, the Australian government banned TikTok from all federal government-owned devices over concerns of users’ data leak security that may lead to national security risks.

With Australia’s ban, all members of the so-called Five Eyes intelligence-sharing network which consists of the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand have banned the short video app from government devices.

Earlier, France, the Netherlands, and the European Commission announced similar bans.
