China is escalating tensions in East Sea: US expert

(VOVWORLD) - China often forces its neighbors to submit to China's interests and priorities and will impose tough economic measures on those who object, said Bonnie Glaser, Director of the China Power Project and Senior Adviser to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

China often purposely interprets disputes in the East Sea (internationally known as South China Sea) in a way that serves its interests, Ms. Glaser said during a recent online discussion on security in the South China Sea, hosted by the US Embassy in Vietnam. She said the US prefers using peaceful measures to resolve disputes and hopes China will stop acting in a way that escalates tensions.
