In an interview granted to VOV, Professor Mi Liang, Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies and the Law Institute of Beijing Foreign Language University, said political trust between the two sides has been strengthened by frequent high-level visits and contact between the leaders of the two countries.

Economic and trade cooperation has expanded rapidly, with trade turnover increasing 10 folds since 2008.

Last year Vietnam was China's largest trading partner in ASEAN and China's fourth largest partner after the US, Japan, and South Korea, said Professor Mi.

China and Vietnam have strong prospects for cooperation, Professor Mi said, adding, “Both are reforming and opening up their economy. The two economies have climbed to a new level. It’s necessary to further strengthen cooperation to promote reform and innovation on each side.”

He expressed his belief that in the future, China and Vietnam will have greater cooperation prospects in high tech, smart technology, biotechnology, and high-speed railway.
