Local authorities offered incense at the Lac Long Quan and Au Co worshiping temples expressing Vietnamese people’s determination to unite and contribute to national peace, solidarity, and prosperity.

The same day, a pedestrian bridge across Mai An Tiem Lake was inaugurated. The work is part of a master plan approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in 2017 to preserve and promote the value of the Hung Kings temple relic site.

Vietnamese are proud of their ancestors: Lac Long Quan, the Dragon Lord, the father of all Vietnamese people and Au Co, the Fairy Goddess, their mother. There’s a legend that Au Co and Lac Long Quan were the mother and father of the Vietnamese and parents of the Hung Kings. The Hung Kings’ era was an important milestone in Vietnam’s history and a foundation for the nation’s cultural, historical, and patriotic tradition. Remembering the great merits of the Hung Kings, people in Phu Tho built a temple and designated the 10th day of the third lunar month as the death anniversary of the founders of the nation. Since 2007, this day has been recognized as a national holiday.

The worshipping rituals of the Hung Kings was recognised as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2012.
