The village was swept away by flash floods and landslides triggered by typhoon Yagi, leaving 54 people dead and 13 missing.

The 10ha new resettlement area, 2km from the old village, will include 40 concrete houses designed in the traditional architecture of the Tay ethnic minority people.

“With the support and care of people across Vietnam, there will be a new Nu village that is more beautiful, livable, safe, and full of love,” Trinh Xuan Truong, Chairman of the Lao Cai provincial People's Committee, said at the groundbreaking ceremony.

The project is expected to be completed before the end of this year. This resettlement area can also accommodate those living in other low-lying areas, not just the households affected by the floods.
