The plant is part of the Vinh Tan Electricity Center, which has 4 thermal power plants with a combined capacity of 5.600 MW capitalized at 1.8 billion USD. This is Vietnam’s biggest coal-fueled electricity center and once completed it will generate power for the south central and southern regions.

Addressing the ground-breaking ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai said the center will help to reduce power transmission from north to south and ensure safety for the national power grid: “Vietnam Electricity Group should cooperate with bidders to implement regulations on investment management and construction to ensure this project’s progress. Environmental protection should be a priority. I ask the Ministry of Transport to instruct relevant agencies to ensure thorough coal transportation. The People’s Committee of Binh Thuan province should care about the lives of people in resettlement areas.”
