At Friday’s plenary session of the Vietnam National Mekong Committee in Hanoi, participants praised the determination of Vietnam and other nations involved to strengthen cooperation on water resource management and sustainable development. Le Duc Trung, Head of the Office of the Vietnam National Mekong Committee, underscored next year’s plan to “boost cooperation with countries in the upstream end of the Mekong River in studying the impacts of construction works on the main flow.

Trung particularly focused on “participating more actively in cooperation initiatives with Japan, the US, and other nations in the Mekong region. The exchange of information and data between the Mekong River Committee, the Vietnam National Mekong Committee, and relevant agencies will connect these cooperative programs with those of Vietnam’s ministries, sectors, and provinces.

The 2nd international conference on the Mekong River Commission will take place in Vietnam next April.
