COP25: UN warns that climate crisis is threatening civilization
(VOVWORLD) - UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres says humanity must choose between hope and surrender as the climate crisis increases its threat to civilization.
At the opening ceremony of the COP 25 climate summit in Madrid, Guterres said climate change could endanger the health and safety of everyone.
US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the US will not abandon mitigation efforts and emphasized that climate change poses a threat to America’s health, economy, and national security. Pelosi led a delegation of 10 US congressmen to the conference. She pointed out that the majority of the Democratic candidates running for the White House remain committed to the goals of the Paris Agreement. A senior State Department official said the Pelosi delegation is separate from the US delegation, led by Ambassador Marcia Bernicat. Technically, the United States will remain a member of the Paris Climate Agreement until November 4 next year.
