(VOVWORLD) - The Covid-19 spread rate in western European countries, particularly Italy, Germany, Spain, and the UK, has shown no sign of slowing.
Italy on Sunday confirmed 550 new infections in 24 hours, bringing the total in the country to more than 1,600, with 34 deaths.
France announced 30 new cases on Sunday, remaining Europe’s 2nd most infected country after Italy.
Covid-19 patients in Germany nearly doubled to 129 on Sunday. Nine of Germany's 16 states now have cases, with Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Bremen reporting their first infections. Horst Seehofer, German Minister of Interior, Building, and Community, said cities will be under lockdown if the situation worsens.
Spain confirmed 80 new cases on Sunday while the total infections in the UK has risen to 35. British health officials say they fear a coming outbreak of the disease, because patients have tested positive without showing any symptoms.
