Deputy PM hails contributions of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha

(VOVWORLD) - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang on Sunday led a delegation of Party and State officials to visit and congratulate Buddhist dignitaries, monks, and nuns in HCM city on the occasion of Vesak Day (the Lord Buddha's birthday) which will fall on May 22 this year.

Visiting Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang, the Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) at Hue Nghiem pagoda, Mr. Quang said he hopes that the Supreme Patriarch and the monks and nuns of the Sangha will continue to participate in social security and humanitarian activities and join efforts with the Government and people in national development.

“The Party and State will help the Sangha continue to practice its religion according to the motto "Dharma - Nation - Socialism", he said.

Visiting Most Venerable Thich Thien Phap, Standing Vice President of the VBS Executive Council, Deputy Prime Minister Quang said the Government is ready to help the Sangha organize the 2025 UN Vesak Celebration in HCM city.

During a visit to the Vietnam Association of Pure Land Lay Buddhists, Mr. Quang acknowledged the contributions of the Association at all levels over the years, especially in health care, medical exams and treatments, social security, and support for the poor.
